HBO Boxing Insiders Honored with BWAA Bernie Awards for Boxing Writing

The Boxing Writers Association of America announced the 2016 winners of its annual Bernie Awards for boxing writing, and HBO Boxing Insiders were among the top honorees.

Springs Toledo earned first place in the Boxing Feature (under 1,500 words) category for his piece "Muhammad Ali's Secret to Greatness" and third place in the Boxing News category for his story "Ali – Dead?" Eric Raskin's oral history "Still Standing: The Story of Hopkins vs. Trinidad" earned second place in the Boxing Investigative Reporting category and an honorable mention in the Boxing Feature (Over 1,500 words category) for his look back at the night Arturo Gatti fought Wilson Rodriguez.

Kieran Mulvaney earned honorable mentions in the categories of Boxing Event Coverage and Boxing Feature (Over 1,500 words).

HBO Boxing Insiders Carlos Acevedo and Thomas Hauser also took home top awards for pieces that appeared on other platforms. In total, received the most honors of any publication.

Last week, HBO Boxing photographer Ed Mulholland earned an honorable mention in the category of Action Photography.
